Professor Ana Menezes has been honoured by the Society of Pulmonology and Phthisiology of Rio Grande do Sul - November 25, 2011 Professor Ana Menezes, a pulmonologist, received an honour award on the 24th November by the Society of Pulmonology and Phthisiology of Rio Grande do Sul (SPTRS). The honour was given in Porto Alegre, the capital city of Rio Grande do Sul, during a festive dinner that was held by the SPTRS. Doctor Ana Menezes is the first professional who has worked in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul to receive the Singular Honour, a biannual honour that has been given since 1995. According to the SPTRS statute, the honour is awarded to professionals with distinguished and extraordinary contributions to pulmonology, in any aspect of this medical specialty.


Professor Aluisio J. D. Barros received an honours degree from the Postgraduate Program in Epidemiology at Federal University of Pelotas - May 10, 2012. Professor Aluisio J. D. Barros received an honours degree from UFPel on the 10th May 2012 in recognition of the great scientific impact of his paper "Alternatives for logistic regression in cross-sectional studies: An empirical comparison of models that directly estimate the prevalence ratio", which was published on the BMC Medical Research Methodology journal. This paper has been cited more than 500 times on the best international scientific literature journals, according to the Scopus scientific database. Besides the record of citations in the PPGE's history, the number is ten times higher than the average (50 citations) for papers published on the main international scientific journals.


Cesar Victora receives an award in the USA - May 02, 2011. The CPE researcher Cesar Victora received a 2011 award for the prominent contributions to the world child health from the World Program in Paediatric Research. The award was received on 2nd May at the Global Paediatric Research Symposium, which was held in Denver, USA.


Professor Flavio Demarco receives an award for the best paper published in 2010 - March 15, 2011. The professor of the Postgraduate Program in Epidemiology Flavio Fernando Demarco received the William J. Gies Award, given for the best paper published in the Journal of Dental Research during the preceding year, for his paper "Dentin-derived BMP-2 and odontoblast differentiation", published in 2010. The award was received at the 89th General Session and Exhibition of the International Association of Dental Research, held in March 2011, in the city of San Diego, California.


Professor Ana Menezes is honoured at the No Smoking Forum - May 25, 2010. Ana Maria Menezes, a pulmonologist was awarded a honourary position in the Smoke Free Forum of Porto Alegre on the 25th May. The event was organized by the Medical Association of Rio Grande do Sul (AMRIGS), the Regional Medicine Board of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (CREMERS), and the Medical Syndicate of Rio Grande do Sul (SIMERS). In 2009, Progesor Menezes was involved in the approval of Pelotas Law 5.636/2009, known as the law against smoking, which forbids smoking in private or public closed areas of collective use.


Professor Cesar Victora receives an award from the Brazilian President - May 19, 2010. The professor and researcher Cesar Victora received the degree of Commander of the National Order of the Scientific Merit. The honour was given on the May twenty-sixth, during the 4th National Conference of Science, Technology and Innovation at Brasília, DF, Brazil. The insignia and the diploma were given by the Brazilian President at the time, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The National Order of the Scientific Merit was created in 1993 by the Brazilian President at that time and its aim is to honour national and international distinguishable personalities in the scientific and technological area. Besides Professor Victora, more 68 personalities and the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) received insignias for their contributions to Science and Technology.
